I am Susi Hately.


From the start of my yoga teaching career, most of my clients were older than me.Many were older than 60 and a good number were over 70.


It became clear early on that the older the person was, the faster they became more functional, and got out of pain.


Yes, you read that correctly too.

My older clients consistently reduced their pain and got back to the lives they wanted faster than my younger clients.


Even when recovering from hip or knee replacement surgery...


This was in stark contrast to what I learned while in university completing my Kinesiology degree. Which was... that the older we got the more decrepit we became.


This did not and does not correlate to what I saw and continue to see in practice.


Now almost 30 years later, I am 50, and most of my clients are still older than me, with many in their 70s.



Quite regularly, my 60 plus year old clients have told me that age does not matter... positive change can happen at any time.


Even if they are recovering from hip or knee surgery.


They are active, and they care about their wellbeing.


They know what they want.


They know how important balance, strength, stability and mobility are - and they want to maintain and make them all better.

Better Balance


Improving balance is more than just standing on one leg.


This is an 8 week program. Throughout these 8 weeks, we’ll focus on following key areas that contribute to and impact balance. You will enable your client to stand taller, have better posture, and have less risk for fall.


  • Improved Coordination and Reduced Compensation Patterns - How improved neuromuscular connection improves how the nervous and myofascial systems work together


  • Inner Ear - Brain Connection - inner ear, dizziness and spatial orientation.


  • Vision - Brain Connection- and how signals are sent from the eye to the brain.


  • Dual Tasks - how to do two unrelated tasks at the same time - like talking and walking


  • Better Brain Function - clearer thinking can improve reaction time.


  • Deliberate Rest - how powerful relaxation, rest, and down-regulating the nervous system are to all of the above occurring smoothly and easily.

By focusing here, you will become lighter on your feet, more agile, nimble (and yes, you will be also able to balance on one foot).


You will feel more comfortable getting on your bike, walking on winter ice, going downhill skiing. You will be less afraid of falling, which will keep you moving and being active.

Optimizing Post Knee or Hip Surgery


We are in a new era where more surgeries are happening with less formal rehabilitation. This means more adults getting replacements will have less care.


Knowing how to support yourself and if you are a teacher how to support your client is key for great outcomes for healing and getting back to the life you want.


In this 8 week program you will learn the following:


  • Why it is so vital to follow medical protocol for the first 3 months


  • How mindfulness, meditation, breathing and reducing compensations are so vital in those first 12 weeks.


  • How to progress yourself or clients after the 3 month mark and after they have been given the go-ahead from their medical team.


  • How to support your client to regain their full function.


  • Why walking doesn’t happen easily but is totally changeable.

By the end of this program you will understand what the surgical procedures are, the contraindications for movement, how to support yourself or your client through the painful phases, when to refer back to the medical team.
